Beyond the Prius.

News Item.
The lithium ion cells used in Hybrids Plus conversions will NOT burn.
Unlike battery cells and electronics used in laptop computers, the cells used by Hybrids Plus are distinctly different in both chemistry and electronics.
The chemistry of the Hybrids Plus cells is phosphate lithium ion, which does not burn.
Secondly, while cells in laptop batteries can charge to uneven voltages allowing a cell to exceed its maximum safe voltage and burst into flames, the electronics in Hybrids Plus PHEV conversions incorporates a Battery Management System that prevents such imbalances from occurring.

Products.
Hybrids Plus is now offering two products: the PHEV-15 and the PHEV-30.
Our modular design allows a vehicle owner to install a smaller battery pack initially, with the option of adding a second pack later to increase range.
The fully charged PHEV-15 adds a 15 mile electric-only range at speeds under 35 MPH.
The PHEV-30 pushes range up to 30 miles.
How to decide which product is best for your needs is thoroughly discussed in the FAQ section on the web.
Basically though, if you drive an average of under 40 miles per day, the PHEV 15 is the best choice.
When calculating average miles in a day you need not consider any long distance trips as you will be operating on the full hybrid system at highway speeds.
Both products use lithium ion battery technology, feature overnight charging using a 110 outlet, and leave plenty of trunk space under the hatch, as well as accessibility to the spare tire.

Progress Report.
The Colorado Governor's Office of Energy Management has contracted Hybrids Plus, Inc. to convert a state owned Toyota Prius HEV to the PHEV-30.
The finished vehicle will be on display in September in Colorado (date and place soon to be announced).

We have recently added research on issues of economic feasibility for PHEV conversions, what is the break even point, why economics is not always the key factor.
You will also find answers to your questions about displacing pollution to the power plants or the viability of solar panels for charging the batteries.
